Hey, have bought a new external hard drive (Iomega 1TB) to divide into both FAT 32 and NTFS. This is to transfer large files from both my Mac and my PC. Have read the threads here and Googled around and found nothing to help me. Have used Partition Magic 8.0 and divided the disk. When the application will perform partition as the computer restarts kooples and I get the error message "Error 626 while executing batch". Interprets this to mean that you can not partition the disk that I want. Shared then up into 2 pieces kooples NTFS but got the same error message. Does anyone know what is wrong? kooples Have Googled around but find no answer kooples .... Is it possible to divide the disk in both NTFS and FAT 32, over 32GB, or is it just wishful thinking on my part ...? Extremely grateful for the help!
I'm not sure if this still applies, but in older Windows versions, you could only have one primary partition on a hard drive. Others kooples would be logical partitions on an extended ditto. Test first creating a primary volume of any type (FAT32 / NTFS) of appropriate size. If this works, then create an expanded (extended) partition, the remaining kooples space and then a logical partition kooples on that.
Since at least XP, you can have up to four primary partitions or up to three primary partitions and logical partitions. It is all to try something different partitioning program. There's a built-in Windows (disk management) and then there are, for example, GParted, which is open source software, as well as EASEUS Partition Master this week apparently is free under http: //www.alltomwin...rofessional-611
PartitionMagic has not been updated for six years and does not work with Vista / W7. No partitions kooples in Windows kooples works, but capable, as I said not to format the disks larger than 32GB as FAT. What I had done in your case was to divide the disk into two partitions with Windows, format one as NTFS. Then, connect the drive to a computer with Linux and formatted it with FAT32. (You may know someone who has a Linux computer). Otherwise, should also be a MAC format as well (however, outside my experience)
Thanks for the answers, but it does not seem to work for me. I downloaded ASEUS Partition Master, but do not want to partition the disk, not even to two NTFS share. Will try with Disk Manager and see if it can help. Is there anyone who can guide me on how I'm doing to share the drive there? Does not seem to work as I want ....
In one PC as is the XP in the second vista. Tested by Pär H wrote, partitioned the disk into my computer, kooples went over to my Mac and "deleted" one partition. Now I have a disk that has both NTFS and FAT32. Now I just try and so so that it works Thanks for the help !!
.... I thought .... Works great on my Mac, can not transfer files from FAT32 partition to NTFS on it. But in my PC (Win XP), it can not even get up the disk / disks. Have not tried the second kooples PC I have Vista, however. Will be enough to test the MacFuse instead and see if that helps. Just a little hard to have to reformat .... again ....
